In 1963, an East German woman named Ellen Romestch was deported from the US to West Germany, because she had become a liability. For those unfamiliar, this was a call-girl ring organized by LBJ's former chief of staff Bobby Baker, with a highly bipartisan Senate clientele. Among her rumoured clients was President Kennedy, though this was never proven. At the same time, a Maryland insurance agent named Don Reynolds provided allegations of LBJ's corruption which the GOP hoped to use as a weapon to impeach LBJ. Since the GOP had only 30 Senate seats, it would more likely be a catalyst for the Kennedy brothers to dump LBJ in '64. Among the allegations was hanky-panky involving the DC (RFK) Stadium. WI these things were publicized? IOTL JFK was assassinated before the GOP could start leaking for Reynolds, with Dick Russell shutting it down on LBJ's request. For Rometsch, Hoover threatened to expose everyone's files on that subject, and the GOP was stopped dead in their tracks. Perhaps the only time that J. Edgar Hoover, Lyndon Johnson and Robert Kennedy were united in a common Rovian purpose.
