Wi: Robert the Bruce has a son by his first wife?

Just what it says on the tin, what if Robert the Bruce the famous scots hero, had a son by his first wife and supposed love Isabella of Mar in 1296, who would be a twin of Robert's daughter Marjorie Bruce (who in Otl married Walter Stewart)

Would having a son necessitate that Robert the Bruce marry once more as he did in OTL, or would he stake his hopes on his son by Isabella surviving through to adulthood?

If this child, does survive through to adulthood what do you think the possible reprecussions could be/.

Having an adult son to succeed him could be good for Scotland, and a less tumultuous early-life during his father's reign would probably be good for David himself.

Does having a male heir make Robert's position more secure/make people more willing to recognise him? Would an older David be at all useful in forging a marriage-alliance with...someone?

As far as remarrying goes I'm not sure- their's no guarantee David would survive until adulthood and even if he did he could die in battle (Scotland was pretty bloody, after all), so maybe the future security of the dynasty requires more sons? Maybe?

Okay interesting, what makes you think that David would be born earlier in this scenario, considering David's mother did not marry Robert for some years after Isabella of Mar died? Though I do see your point.

If we do say that David is indeed Isabella of Mar's son with Robert, if he is born in 1296, then he would be 18 at Bannockburn, perhaps marrying into france could be sometihng useful and interesting?
