At one point in the 1030s, Robert I, Duke of Normandy, attempted to invade England on behalf of his cousins Edward and Alfred, who had gone into exile after Cnut the Great took over. Supposedly, he was prevented from doing so by unfavorable winds.

What if Robert had been able to invade England?

The possible longevity of the House of Wessex, and continued Anglo-Saxon rule over England? Which in turns butterflies the whole of the 11th century and beyond?

The irony would be that if Robert invades, even on behalf of his cousins, that the Witenagemot would probably recognise him as King rather than them, so we'd have Robert the Conqueror rather than William the Bastard.

If OP's statement is to be believed, Robert would be pressing a cousin's claim. Why would Witenagemot raise him?

Tbh I can't see Robert doing that well against Cnut and this probably eliminates Alfred and Edward even more than OTL.
It may settle things between Harold Harefoot and Harthacnut though such that Harefoot's son gets to be King eventually.
