WI: Rizal and Luna duelled?

In 1891, Jose Rizal and Antonio Luna were courting the same girl named Nellie Boustead. One time, the future general got so drunk he said unsavory remarks about the girl, so Rizal challenged him to a duel. However, this didn't come to pass and soon Luna apologized to Rizal.

Now, what if the apology did not happen and the duel took place instead, with one or both of them being mortally wounded? How would this affect the Philippine Revolution, since Rizal had only just finished Noli Me Tangere?

Drastic butterflies.

You've just gutted the nationalist movement significantly. Without Rizal as a unifying force, the ilustrados will soon be divided.

As for Luna's case, the future revolutinary army will lose a very capable military commander.

Poor Nellie, she's gonna be known as the "Face that Killed a Thousand Patriots".

Would there even be a nationalist movement, seeing as the Katipunan was only established after Rizal was captured?

Yes. And Del Pilar might lead this one, given that he's slowly leaning to the radical side in his last days.

Wait, which del Pilar? The uncle or the nephew? //too much related personages in history

Marcelo died before Rizal IOTL, though. Maybe the duel can butterfly away his tuberculosis and he'd be the figurehead of the revolution instead of Rizal.

I thought Basilio was supposed to be the protagonist of the 3rd novel.

Anyways, how will the duel actually work out? Will it be swords or pistols?

Regarding one of the unfinished novels of Rizal...one of those was about the Kingdom of Tondo, whose main character is Kamandagan, Rizal knew something about the Prehispanic Luzon as ruled by the Bolkiahs and the plot of it was to free it from Spanish rule similar to the OTL Ladia revolt...so we can have a separatist sentiments for Luzonians rather than having them wanting to dominate the archipelago...
