WI: Reverse World War 2 with Communist Hitler and Fascist Stalin?

I was reading the excellent "Our Struggle" thread by The Red, when I pondered about how a conflict between a Communist Germany and Fascist Russia would have gone down. I also admitted that it was an idea I've always been interested in, and perhaps it could also be interesting if we assume that Hitler and Stalin still got into power in their countries but with their political roles being switched. Another member on that thread gave an IMO very interesting analysis on how Stalin could have become a fascist.

  • Fascist Stalin: Stalin gets abandoned by Besarion and Keke as an infant, perhaps because they either couldn't afford to keep him or because of them feeling repulsed by Stalin due to his webbed feet. Stalin gets adopted by a Russian family, and he grows to become a staunch Russian nationalist. Perhaps at some point he finds out that his biological parents abandoned him, and this is when the nationalism grows stronger and to a point when it turns into outright racism, but there are also feelings of self-hatred for finding out that he is indeed Georgian. Nevertheless, he forges information about his past and enlists in the army for the First World War. After his service and the end of the First World War, Russian land is lost and people come to the conclusion that the Russians need to reclaim their lost territories. Stalin participates in the White Movement (where they win in this scenario, perhaps as a result of Trotsky and Lenin dying in 1918, and a communist revolution ends up being very brutally suppressed), blames territorial losses on ethnic minorities (including Ukrainians, Kazakhs, and Germans) within the Russian Empire, becomes very popular amongst the White community and he finally becomes the leader of Russia. Stalin's ultimate goal is to expand Russian "living space" west into Poland, the Baltic states, and Germany, and then either wipe out or enslave the Germanic people. The Russian Empire becomes its own Nazi Germany.
  • Communist Hitler: Much of the reasoning for Hitler becoming communist in alternate history has been established by the already mentioned "Our Struggle" thread, but I'd like to try and analyse for myself how this could have happened. Perhaps as a result of the abuse from his father and being forced to follow his father's footsteps, Hitler becomes an outcast and rejects much popular opinion in Germany at the time of his adolescence. It is at this point that he discovers the works of Karl Marx and becomes mesmerised with them. After WW1, Germany ends up falling to a communist revolution, which establishes a socialist/state capitalist union, which ends up being slowly purged and taken over by a totalitarian figure (Hitler) who has established a cult of personality and took away democracy, without using racial rhetoric. Germany has become its own Soviet Union.
And maybe after that:

  • Commie Germany, which tried and failed to establish communism in Poland 1919-1921, creates an allied communist puppet state in Czechoslovakia, all the while without annexing Bohemia or Moravia. Slovakia still becomes a puppet state, but is communist.
  • Fascist Russia enacts a crash-industrialisation using nationalised corporations, and brings about a reign of terror against left-wing, far-left, communist, as well as right-wing but non-fascist factions. No collectivisation happens.
  • Russia proposes a non-aggression pact with Germany, splitting the Baltic states between German and Russian spheres, but Fascist Russia secretly plans to take/colonise Germany, while Germany secretly plans to bring communism to Russia. In spite of that, the pact does resolve trade deficits for both nations.

Now I'd like to know how a World War would have looked like after that? Which one do the Allies side with? If not any of the Allied Powers, who else would be their allies? Who would win overall between Fascist Stalin and Communist Hitler?

Maybe it's stupid, maybe I'm an idiot, but I thought this was an interesting idea nonetheless.

I feel like Communist Germany and Fascist Russia would fund Fascist and Communist groups within each other's countries and even possibly set up assassinations. Germany and Russia could form a non-aggression pact to divide Poland while the two are building up and Communist Germany focuses on the west to spread the Revolution while Fascist Stalin watches afar.

Stalin could invade China to support the KMT, displacing the Japanese Kwantung Army from Manchuria and giving the nationalists much needed manpower. Stalin would want revenge on the Japanese for Russia's defeat in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905) and ends up taking Manchuria and Korea as Russian territory. He tells Chiang to shut it about these annexations and in exchange for Chiang giving up Manchuria and maybe Mongolia (which could be absorbed into Russia following Ungern's terror in the Civil War), Stalin gives increased military support and even becomes an active participant in the Chinese Civil War, destroying Mao's communists and even Mao himself dies and China becomes part of the Russian alliance.

Japan's Home Islands are left alone for a bit because the pacific fleet of Russia is quite pathetic but in a few years, the Russians pursue an invasion of Hokkaido (seeing a lot of casualties in the process). Japan's early knockout means maybe the U.S. never gets involved in a Pacific War as the Japanese would be too busy fighting the Russians. Japan is inevitably defeated and Hokkaido is annexed into Russia and Japan becomes a puppet state.

Russia sparks up ethnic revolts in the Middle East to displace British and French colonialism, and pressures Turkey to open up the Bosphorus which sees them seek France and Britain so Turkey becomes part of the Entente. Turkey's potential refusal could see WW2 start with a Russian invasion of Turkey in the 1940s.

Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, and Greece jump at a Russian alliance due to a shared Orthodox and Slavic culture and religion and Russia offers them partitions of Turkey (to Greece and Bulgaria) while offering Hungary Transylvania again against Romania. Poland would join the Entente given their sandwiched in between Fascist Russia and Commie-Germany. Stalin might pursue a Polish Genocide seeing the Polish as a troublesome people that can't accept Russian rule like the Polish revolts in the 19th Century and Stalin essentially when occupying the territory installs a more mega evil Muravyov in power who begins ethnically deporting ethnic poles out and polish cities are renamed to Russian names.

Commie Germany might form an alliance with Austria and begrudgingly join the Entente of Britain, France, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Turkey, Italy, and Spain. Germany is invaded by Russia it becomes a stalemate in Eastern Prussia while Scandinavia is invaded to cut off valuable iron ore exports to the Allies.

KMT China invades Southeast Asia to "liberate" European colonies and helped with Russian military support. The U.S. condemns these actions.

Russia also invades Afghanistan to open up an Indian front sparking Britain's fears during the Great Game in the 19th Century and possibly an invasion of Persia to cut off oil supplies.

These various fronts stretch Russia thin and this WW2 could last even longer than OTL WW2 due to the size of Russia and its supplies. The Atom Bomb developed by the British and Germans help turn the tide and the Russians are pushed back after dozens are dropped across Eastern Europe. Communist Governments are set up by the Germans as well as Fascist Governments alongside some Democratic ones. A new Cold War is set up after the war between Fascism, Democracy, and Communism though this communism would be German led instead of Russian as Russia is balkanized into various states and a Commie Mittel-Europa is established.

Alternatively, the Fascist Russians push the Allies to the Channel leaving all of Europe in Stalin's grip and a cease-fire is made between Russian Fascism and the Anglo-American world.

That's about as far as I got.
