WI: Republicans reveal Wallace's strange beliefs, Democrats reveal Willkie's affairs?

just out of curiosity, what were some of Henry Wallace's strange religious beliefs?

***

Dear Guru,

I have been thinking of you holding the casket--the sacred, most precious
casket. And I have thought of the New Country going forth to meet the seven
stars and under the sign of the three stars. And I have thought of the
admonition "Await the Stone."

We await the Stone and we welcome you again to this glorious land of
destiny, clouded though it may be with strange fumbling fears. Who shall
hold up the compelling vision to those who wander in darkness? In answer to
this question we again welcome you. To drive out depression. To drive out
fear...

And so I await your convenience prepared to do what I am to do.

May Peace, Joy, and Fire attend you as always.

G [G, short for Galahad, is what Wallace called himself in these letters]

In the great haste of this strange
maelstrom that is Washington

Love the title of that book -- American Dreamer.

Alright, so Henry had a mystical bent. and he was out of step with the majority of his fellow citizens.

I think that's the phrase for it. He just was not right for that time and place. We're probably lucky he was never President. And yet, he could have been.

I'm not even sure things would have been that different. So much was the national security establishment. Plus, just the dynamics of the whole thing.

For example, Eisenhower thought it was dreadful that we and the Soviets were targeting cities in threats and counterthreats, but he didn't see a way out of it.

a loosening following the death of Stalin in the early '50s?

What might really have been lost was building up the Third World through genuine development and pretty good trade deals.

Human beings are still going to edge cheat and shave the corners, but . . . we could have been cheating in that realm. 'Ah, heck, that's not even a legitimate trade deal, you're just pumping money in and subsidizing the whole thing in order to look good' --- this possibility could have come to fruition. Very much to the benefit of developing nations. We could have been talking about the five tigers of Asia much earlier.

He did séances and took advice from the spirit of a dead Indian chief.

And the problem with this is . . . :)
Well, clearly, because it involved an Indian chief, and not his mother. If it had been the latter, he could have gone on to be the longest ruling leader of his country. :) (This is a reference to Mackenzie King in Canada, for non-Canadians).

Then it's revealed he had to take blue pills, and he loses all of that support. XD
You do realize that those blue pills are about half a century too late, right?

Mackenzie King of Canada is an interesting figure. I think he was also a bachelor, right?

(which means possibly gay, possibly aspie, super duper devoted to work, comfortable with love interest on the side, or perhaps half dozen other possibilities)
