WI Republicans remain isolationists?

Assuming that the midwestern, Bob Taft brand of Republicanism (isolationism, protectionism, opposition to labor unions) takes over the Republican Party in the fifties rather than the 'Modern Republicanism' of Dwight Eisenhower, how does this change American politics? Do the Democrats remain strongly interventionist in response?

The last question gets a definite "Yes".
What would change? Nixon would still do Vietnamization. Reagan would still do Star Wars and the defense buildup (but no Lebanon, Libya or Grenada). Bush i would get the US out of NATO when the wall and the USSR fell (if we weren't out already) and would not send troops to liberate Kuwait. Bush ii would have a humble foreign policy. Scoop Jackson and Joe Lieberman would be the faces of the Democratic party. Carter would be butterflied out, while the Republicans may want to impeach Clinton if he goes into the Balkans without congressional approval.
