WI - Republic of Russia?

What would happen if the Bolsheviks were somehow unable to seize control of Russia and therefore Russia remained a republic? How might history have changed without Russia being communist? Might we see an alliance form between America and Russia?

I mean, i dont think that the conditions for Russia to truly become a republic quite existed, but they can defiently reform into that given the right base.

Economically everything hinges on land reform. If its done right, the seeds of untold wealth will be planted. If its done wrong, the nation will plunge into a state of perpetual destitution for decades.

Socially, the nation will probably be wose off then the Soviets because you'd lack the mass efforts that they conducted IOTL; like the mass literary campaign.

Overall, if done right, they would probably be wose off in the short term and better off in the long term.

With regard to the US, it was only the real threat to its markets, by the soviets, that put them at a knifes edge, and it was this edge which completely reversed the demilitarization process after WW2. Remove that and there is no cause for hostility.

Hopefully it'll be a nicer place then the nightmare Putin made it.

Putin turned post-Imperial Russia into a nightmare?

You sure you aren't missing a devastating civil war, 70 years of despotic communist rule or a disastrous national collapse in the 1990s somewhere between the 92 years between the Russian Revolution and Putin's ascendancy to the Presidency?

For the Bolsheviks not to take over Russia, you'd need to have the Provisional Government pretty much leave WW1 the moment they took power because people were effin sick of it. Even if it means losing a bit of territory and such like Finland. We'd have the Povisional Gov in charge and the Petrograd Soviets. Eventually, socialists would be voted into the republic, but it would remain a republic for a while.

Hitler may not rise to power without the threat of a Communist boogeyman, but I'm thinking either the Spartakists take power or socialists are elected are into the Weimar to get up into power.

World War 2 could be adverted or just be another European war due to Brit/France being assholes aboue German war debts and such. No Cold War would still make thingd better

If you butterfly the October Revolution, you butterfly the entire 20th Century, and quite a bit of the 21st century, as we know it. No Red Scare probably butterflies Hitler and Mussolini and therefore World War 2 and the Holocaust don't happen. You get rid of the wars in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and civil wars in places such as Angola and Nicaragua. Today, we would not have to worry about a nuclear North Korea or Vladimir Putin interfering in our election. No Holocaust probably means no Israel so the Middle East is very different. I made an entire TL about this sort of world (albeit, instead of a Republican Russia, I went with a constitutional monarchy).

I had Nicholas get killed in the Otsu incident in 1891. That means Tsar Michael II who, after OTL 1905 revolution happens in 1897, puts in place a Kaiserreich style constitution which lasts for 20 years when power is transferred over to the Duma.
