WI: Replacement White House?

If something were to happen to the White House to make it that the president could no longer live safely in it, where would he and his family be relocated to?

Camp David

Truman lived in Blair House for two years.

It depends on why the WH is uninhabitable. If it's something like toxic mold they'd just move across the street since you already have the heavy security right there.

If it's something that renders all of Washington unsafe (natural disaster, dirty bomb, etc.) there are a lot of options. Camp David, Greenbriar. W might even let them use the Crawford ranch. That has a security perimeter and the necessary communications (he used it as a satellite office).

There was a proposal to build a castle up in the Colorado mountains in the 1910s to serve as a seasonal White House. But WW1 and the fact that Wilson thought it was too elaborate. I'll edit this later if I can find some detail on it.

Mar-a-Lago. It's the Southern White House.

A Democrat President would probably stay in the Blair House however.

Known as the 'Western White House', Hearst Castle was bequeathed to the American people by former President William Randolph Hearst (D-NY 1908-1916) upon his death in 1951.

I was able to find this Jefferson County, Colorado website talking about the history of Mount Falcon Park.

In 1911, Walker sponsored an automobile rally on Mount Falcon and laid out a golf course at its base. Walker also dreamed of a palatial Summer White House on Mount Falcon for President Woodrow Wilson. Walker commissioned prominent Denver architect Jules Jacques Benois Benedict to design a “Summer White House” modeled on the castle built by King Ludwig of Bavaria. The cornerstone was laid and construction begun. Despite enlisting every schoolchild in Colorado to contribute a dime, the Summer White House never proceeded beyond the foundation, due to lack of funds and the coming of World War I.

The King Ludwig of Bavaria is most likely Ludwig II, who constructed the Linderhof Palace and the Neuschwanstein Castle, which is probably what the article is referring to.

I also found a picture of an informational sign at the Mount Falcon Park showing drawings of the planned Summer White House

I guess in the hunger games universe the castle was built and then the Capitol located there

as a point of interesting, Neuschwanstein Castle was also used as the inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland

so i guess this could apply to A World of Laughter, a World of Tears as well? :p

I have always felt that a replacement White House/Capital would be St. Louis or some area more central in the US. I understand why the US capital is Washington DC but something more central would be better.
