Currently, I'm borrowing a book from the public library called The Turks Today by Andrew Mango, which was published at the beginning of Erdoğan's premiership. The book mention that Erdoğan was tempted to go for professional association football (since he was apparently good at association football/soccer). However, one of requirements for one of Turkey's top teams was that he had to shave his beard. Since he went to a religious school, he refused to shave it, and thus ended his aspirations for going pro - not to mention his father's opposition. But what if he decided to shave his beard and go pro? How far could he go within the Turkish pro football system? Could Turkey win the FIFA World Cup?
