WI: Rebellions in France during WW1

You need to provide more details for an answer. Such as what year. How many. etc.

Basically France falling into civil war means a Central Power win, unless very late in the war (last 6 months).

Oh sorry, the year is 1916, the Rebellion is somewhat strong, with it's main support covering most of the South of France, Paris, Normandy and Britanny.

Yeah, because 1915 and 1916 just aren't that likely, the armies are really just too heavily entrenched. You could do better in 1914, with say a stalemate at Marne rather than an Entente victory.

Ehh, 1914 seems a little to boring for this to happen.

Oh the victories wouldn't all happen in 1914, but if a determined assault on Verdun (it would now be surrounded on three sides) happened in 1915 and resulted in the fort's capture...

Technically communists did rise up in France and military units mutinied as a result of failed bloody offensives towards the end of the war.

If Petain had acted more aggresive to the "mutineers" there might have been even greater disruption of the French Army. If the Germans had exploited this with the troops arriving from the russian front, they could have smashed through a weakend french frontline.

The Amreicans were just arriving - maybe the war would have taken a different path (not necessarily a CP win, but maybe a standstill later with a lighter peace for Germany)

POD is late 1915, The Germans win a string of victories in the early, summer and fall, and occupy much of Northern and Eastern France.

OK, the mutiny will end the war, but the Entente would be losing badly anyway.

You have the Germans doing better in 1915 in the West, looks like on the offensive. This can only happen if A-H holds against Russia. A-H holding against Russia in 1914/15 at Lemberg or 1915 in Pmezsyl will mean a CP win, Mutiny or no Mutiny. If the east holds, a series of bad events happen for the Entente compared to OTL.

1) Italy likely does not enter war.

2) Russian much higher casualties for Russia.

3) The two lost fortress cities contain a big portion of the active duty A-H officer/NCO corp. A-H has a few hundred thousand more troops, and all units do better because of better NCO's.

4) Bulgaria likely enters war earlier. If this option happens, then the Ottomans get supplies sooner and siege artillery, and Gallipoli is worse for UK.

5) Galicia was a big portion of the food supply for Austria proper. Less food issues.

6) Russia evacuated many men of military age from Galicia, these men can now be drafted by A-H.

Now yes, you POD can easily lead to a mutiny/rebellion in 1916, and the war will end with a huge CP win.

This is another path for you TL. Even if the battles are all the same until early 1917, a too strict a crackdown risks the troops behaving as Italians did to harsher punishment. In one battle, 300K Italians shot their officers and surrendered. Another 300K retreated without orders. So if you get the same effect in France, you can have a portion of the French line collapse, and the Germans advance much deeper into France. This could easily give you a cold peace, CP win, or Entente win in 1919. It all depends on how big, where, and how much do the Germans exploit.
