WI: "Real" Toledo War

In case you don't know, the Toledo War was a boundary dispute between Michigan and Ohio upon Michigan's impending statehood. Due to some weird surveying, a strip of land including Toledo was claimed by both Ohio and Michigan. A team of self-proclaimed diplomats was sent (I forgot which state sent them) and were kidnapped by the other state. So, each side sent a small armed force to the strip. IOTL, no one ever fired a shot, and Jackson intervened to fix the situation by giving Michigan the Upper Peninsula in exchange for recognizing Ohio's ownership of the Toledo Strip.

What if the conflict devolves into a shooting war? For a reason why, let's say a group of green trigger-happy Ohioans fire on a group of "Indians" that turn out to be a party of Michiganders. The "Toledo Massacre" leads to the Michiganders retaliating by setting fire to some forest in Ohio, just south of Toledo, which spreads and destroys several towns, as well as spreading north enough to threaten Toledo. The Ohioans march into Michigan and begin to burn down towns and kill Michigander militias, and a proper civil war starts between Ohio and Michigan.

What happens? How would Jackson react? Would any other states join in? What would be the potential precedents set, and would this in the end strengthen or weaken the federal government?

Jackson would definitely send in the army to keep the peace; no shooting wars between states will be fought on his watch. What's interesting about that is that it might set some sort of precedent for the Civil War or even the Nullification Crisis, which could cause either of those to happen very differently.

Furthermore, the chance of Michigan getting the UP in a timeline where they started a shooting war, is almost nil.

In OTL Ohio got the Toledo Strip and Michigan the UP as part of a compromise to end the dispute (Jackson was hoping these concessions would throw both states into the Dem column in the next election. It didn't work as both went Whig).
