WI: Reagan's bombing kills Gaddafi?

As I'm sure most of you know, the US launched a bombing of Libya in 1986 in retaliation for the bombing of a Berlin discotheque, planned by the Libyan government and aided by the Stasi, 10 days earlier. However, thanks to warning from Italian PM Bettino Craxi, Gaddafi was able to escape from the Bab al-Azizia compound before the attack began, and thus survived. However, what would have happened if Craxi hadn't warned Gaddafi? What would the Libyan government look like, today? Would a revolution similar to the one last year happen? What would be the fate of the other Gaddafis? What actions would Reagan take after this? Etc, etc...

Me, personally, I think that without Gaddafi, the whole state apparatus crumbles in upon itself, since he made it to revolve around himself and his family. What happens after that is anyone's guess.

Without Gaddafi and no rebels to take over would Libya end up going the way of Somalia or were there other generals waiting in the wings to take power?

I'm a bit fuzzy on the political structure of Libya in 1986. I don't think there were any organized rebel factions, but I'm assuming that there was significant dissatisfaction with Gaddhafi's rule among the populace. The question is, would it be enough to topple the government in the ensuing power vacuum?

In a Somalia type situation it wouldnt be a war of generals or rebels but a war of tribes and clans.

Only if Safia Farkash (Gaddafi's second wife) proves unable to hold things together. Okay, she's not well-known at the time, but that doesn't mean she's incapable.

Wait, what? Italy warned a sworn enemy of the West?
And....nothing happened?
Another example of how rotten Italian politics are... This is one of the reasons why geopolitics and justice have so little to do with eachother. We could've been rid of that pig (Gadaffi, should anyone be confused) decades ago!

There really would not have been time for the opposition to organize so I would see the military stepping in. They could probably gain a few years from following Khrushchev’s example of a de Kaddafi period.

I read a book Qaddafi and the Libyan Revolution which gives the impression that a significant portion of the populace didn't support him but had no desire to revolt.
