The RAAF received 48 Canberra B20s (1st generation with extra fuel) from late 1953, these were deployed in Malaya for the Emergency and Indonesian Confrontation. In 1967 2 sqn deployed to Vietnam and conducted bombing missions until being withdrawn in 1971.
The RNZAF received 9 B(I)12 and 2 trainer Canberras (3rd generation night interdictor) in 1959, these were deployed through Asia but were bought home in late 1966 and sold to India in late 1970.
Is there any way, given the cosy arrangments between the Comonwealth at the time, that the RNZAF could have swapped out their 3rd gen Canberras for 2sqns 1st gen, given that the Kiwis were deploying home and the Aussies were deploying to aa hot war? Would it have made much difference to 2 sqn RAAF operations in Vietnam to have 3rd gen night interdictor Canberras instead oof our 1st gen level bombers, especially given the success of 2sqn IOTL?
