WI Queen Victoria assassinated in 1872?

In 1872 an 17 year old Irishman, Arthur O'Connor, approached Victoria as she was getting out of a carriage. In one hand he held a petition for the release or Irish prisoners, in the other hand a pistol.

Now that pistol turned out not to be loaded. But supposing it was and as a result Victoria was killed, perhaps unintentionally. Apart from succession, what would this mean for (1) the monarchy and (2) Ireland?

I think for 1. Both Edward VII will cry either of Sorrow and hapiness for one the assasination of his mother and second for becoming king finally.

For Ireland... I think we going to see a revival of Mr. Oliver Cronwell Work... IN STEROIDS... At least Exist USA for the Irish flee

Ireland will never be independent. A dominion at best, but more likely still part of the UK today

Probably both, although I don't know about the finally as he's still pretty young. Might be the crisis will make a better monarch out of him rather than the long wait without power or influence that he had OTL. Alternatively if he comes a dilettante while actually on the throne it could see the monarchy becoming rather unpopular.

It won't be that bad but there will be a serious crack-down, especially since about this sort of time there were Irish extremists engaged in a bombing campaign. What is likely to be bloodier would be the actions of the local loyalists, probably supported by some of the army units in the region. There would probably be quite an exodus through, although France might be more likely than the US.
