In his younger years at the Forbidden City, Puyi was educated by his beloved Scottish tutor Reginald Johnston (played by Peter O'Toole in The Last Emperor). When he was evicted from the 1924, he attempted to gain a visa to Britain in order to study there. The British consulate denied his request, prompting him to move to Tianjin, where he began his infamous relationship with the Japanese.
What if Puyi had been granted his visa? How would he adapt to British high society? Could he make the case for restoration among the British elites?
How about Japan? Would the invasion of Manchuria be inevitable? What would a puppet regime in Manchuria look like, with out Puyi to feign legitimacy?
