I'm going to start off with saying that I know little to nothing about Ptolemy or Ptolemaic Egypt but I've become interested in the subject recently and wanted to know - is there anyway we could see a Ptolemaic Ethiopia come along?
How could this effect Ethiopia? The early Solomnid and Ptolomaic rulers coincided with each other. Maybe as Rome begins starts to become a burgening power some Ptolomy princes flee south. Or an Ethiopian princess could ask a ptolomaic prince to be her consort.
There could be verying degrees of Hellinism and Egyptian influence in the region. There might be more of a focus toward the sea and indian ocean trade, which means the capital might move toward the coast. Egypt was often able to avoid the large breakdown of its country via fiefdoms and had a Very centralized state, yet thats no guarentee that this will be translated over to the principalities of ethiopia. Ethiopian influence MIGHT extend upwards into Nubia. In fact a great many questions hinge on how centralized such a state could stay. It would certainly be a gateway into European markets and hold great way over the Jordan, but only if there is a united Ethiopia. You'd see much greater Indian influence as I imagine such a state would attract a great many indian merchants. Many swahili peoples would be attracted to such a state and I imagine the state would hold much sway southward. In time I imagine hellenism would give sway to a great many things such as Christianity. It all depends really. How could this effect Ethiopia?
Would this Ptolemaic Ethiopia ever expand into the Ethiopian Highlands? There could be verying degrees of Hellinism and Egyptian influence in the region. What effects might there be on Ethiopia if Egypt still falls to Islam?Sure
it depends on how large either the Caliphate or Ethiopia is. Is this Ethiopia still christian? Otherwise they might adopt islam for better relations. If Ethiopia isnt united then parts of it might be conquered piecemeal. There would definately be a cutoff with Europe/greece/rome. Maybe more of a focus on indian ocean trade. What effects might there be on Ethiopia if Egypt still falls to Islam?
What effects could this have on Ethiopian culture?Maybe Anthony and Octavian's conflict ends in a stalemate, with Octavian and Mark Anthony given dictatorial powers in the East and West respectively. Cleopatra and Caesarion are given control of Egypt and they expand their influence into Nabatea and Judea. Controlling the mouth of the Red Sea trade, they decide to sent out expeditions to the source of the trade ships and caravans and subjugate the kingdoms in East Africa. These kingdoms hellenize and intermarry into the Ptolemies, and eventually they enter into personal union with Egypt.
Well this isn’t Ptolemaic Egypt per se, but I recommend checking out the book lions blood, which sort of is the same POD just a bit different.I'm going to start off with saying that I know little to nothing about Ptolemy or Ptolemaic Egypt but I've become interested in the subject recently and wanted to know - is there anyway we could see a Ptolemaic Ethiopia come along?
