WI PRINZ EUGEN's machinery holds up

IOTL, after the PRINZ EUGEN broke away from the BISMARCK during their Atlantic sortie, the cruiser was found to have mechanical troubles which forced her to return to port.

What if the machinery problems never materialised, and she was able to continue her raiding sortie?

She may have continued her mission with Bismarck, in which case she either shares her larger cousin's fate or escapes with a varying degree of damage.

If she breaks out into the Atlantic, it would depend on how successful she is on her own, but I don't see it changing the general state of the war.

Presumption is that the mission goes as OTL until after the two split up, BISMARCK winding up on the bottom much as OTL.

Scenario is she's already in the Atlantic and fuelled from the SPICHERN as OTL, the PoD is she doesn't have the machinery problems which forced her to head for Brest on 26 May. Naturally I don't expect it to make the slightest difference to the final outcome of the war; the question is, how successful a raider can she be and how much effort will it take to bring her down?

If she goes a raiding then it depends on the type of convoy escort she comes across

A poorly escorted convoy will scatter with the escorts trying to buy time and I expect that a number of merchant ships would be hunted down before the PE had to leave the area while if a Battleship is present (ie Revenge Class) then PE is doing an abrupt 180 and suddenly remembering a prior appointment elsewhere.

What ever happens as soon as a convoy is engaged then her location is known!

This could be BAD for Germany. There's a decent chance of Prinz Eugen encountering an American warship, and if that happens, anything can happen, up to and including a naval battle with serious ramifications, up to and including the declaration of war.
