WI: Princip Doesn't Get Lucky

So, what would have happened if Gavrilo Princip had decided to get a bite to eat somewhere else that day he killed Franz Ferdinand? What if he had skipped town after the first failed attempt. Hell, what if he had dropped his fork and went down to get it. Basically, what if he had missed his lucky opportunity. WWI wouldn't have started as we know it, but would it have started some other way? What would have been different? What would the world be like today?

Franz Ferdinand would have become Emperor and he would have reformed the Empire into a Federal Empire. The result is that the Austro-Hungarian Empire might keep on going. WW1 would still have happened though. What the world would look like today is difficult to predict. A lot of things will be butterflied away.

A living though not yet ruling Franz Ferdinand would have better control of Conrad and the war party (although FF was listed as head of the so-called war party, he wasn't eager for war). That would have dampened Austro-Hungarian reactions in the next crisis.
More important: FF's assassination had provided the one occasion where Wilhelm II. would not shrink back from risking a war. He regarded FF his friend and really was shaken by his death and very upset. So, with FF alive, W.II. would continue to be the "advocate of peace" - or the "Umfaller" (tumbler) as which he was know in German diplomatic circles.
