WI: Princess Diana dies in childbirth to the child of Al Fayed

From what I heard that Princess Diana is possibly pregnant when she died, what if Princess Diana dies in 1997 or 1998 due to giving birth to the child of Dodi Al Fayed?

This probably wouldn't cause much changes. Dodi al-Fayed might has bit difficult times when being fathered outside of marriage no matter will child survive or not. And even the baby survives it hardly would change much if anything. He/she would be just child of princess Diana nothing else and pretty surely would live very private life. Not going play any role in British royal family. Not even sure if that child even participates to weddings of his/her older brothers.

Altough this might cause some changes to psyches of William and Harry.

But most likely Diana would marry Dodi before the Baby Bump would become more obvious.

Diana’s reputation is not as great. As is typical of pretty much all political of famous people that died in accidents (or assassinations) Diana’s reputation got a boost that she won’t have in this time line. Add in the kid out of wedlock was not as accepted at that time so she will actually suffer a bit.
So her reputation will not be as good

I find the premise implausible. Women almost never die in childbirth in First World countries today. And ruling class women effectively live in the first world wherever they happen to reside. It does happen, but is statistically insignificant. If you were writing this into a timeline, you would have to create some reason why Diana was out of reach of a hospital. On a plane? Hiding from the tabloid press in some distant Scottish Estate? Trapped in a car wreck? Giving birth out of wedlock in Saudi is not a good situation to be in, but Dodi would have the strings to pull to keep things quiet and to get Diana, if anything, better medical care than in England.

Any offspring that come from the relationship are not in the line of succession to the throne of England. That would be an odd couple setting indeed, if the Windors and Sauds intermarried so they became a "single" family. The most absolute monarchy on the planet in the and the most constitutional monarchy becoming one and the same. And the Sauds would not be prohibited from marrying into the Windsor family because they are not Catholic.

Actually even in first world countries there are high risk deliveries. Here is a list of them in the source listed below.

I do believe that this might fall into a very small sub genre called alt-tabloid history.
Then some say that defines tabloid journalism in general.

And if you talk with the various multitude of Muslim taxi drivers in Paris they will tell you in effect that is what happened. As they all seam to believe that she was assassinated while pregnant. And they all mention it if you get anywhere close to the site of the accident.
