WI: Prince Engene of Savoy fights for France?

So for those of you who don't know, Prince Eugene of Savoy was one of Austria's most brilliant military commanders. Serving three Emperors and fighting in at least four major European wars, he was one of the best generals of the era. hat people might not know however, is that he originally wanted to fight for France but Louis XIV rejected this out of hand because of his mothers association with the L'affaire des poisons. Even the King himself said that the request was modest. So lets say Louis XIV holds his anger and allows Eugene to serve in France. How would having this commander of the French side change things? Would the Austrians still win the Battle of Zenta, thus driving the ottomans out of Central Europe or would the war stall again? Would France win the War of the Spanish Succession?

Marlborough VS Eugene in the War of Spanish Succesion a brillant idea. Perhaps i'll make a poll for it.

Without Eugene the Austrians probably won't do as well at Zenta and definitly won't take back Belgrade in 1716. On another note Eugene spent a lot of time modernizing and improving the organization of the Austrian army with out him i don't know what condition they will be in by the wars of the 1750's.

I forgot about the army reforms. Now THAT would be interesting. Combining key reforms with the largest, most powerful army in Europe.

yeah, i agree completely combine with France's army it could be deadly. On another note Eugene relieved the Siege of Turin and drove the French out of Italy in 1706. With Eugene fighting for France i see Turin falling along with Northern Italy.

That's partly what I was thinking myself. With Eugene fighting for France, the French and Spanish could successfuly hold Italy, not to mention the Netherlands. The war could go in a hole nother direction, with Spain holding onto it's European Empire and possibly Philip V's succession rights.

The Blenheim campaign with Eugene in command could also be turned around for France. I doubt Eugene would make the same mistake as Tallard, at the battle, and keep his center guarded by unsupported cavalry and since the French outnumber the British and Austrians by a few thousand men he could probably pull out a victory.

Thus removing Marlborough's star. I bet the war would end a lot sooner, especially if the French are able to support the Bavarian march on Vienna.

That may hurt Winston Churchill's political career, what do you think? Without having a successful ancestor it could really hurt his chances at the Prime Minster slot.

By the way what do you think the odds of a universal Bourbon monarchy in most of continental Europe are ? A France victory in the war would mean Bourbons control France, Spain and Italy. The Hapsburg could be deposed and replaced, the Ottomans might be willing to lend a hand after all the French and them never had that terrible relations. This would, in name at least, give them control over the HRE. Then on top of this if France capitalizes in the War of Polish Succession who knows!

It reminds me of a TL, Drunk on Bourbon. I can't remember who wrote it but it essentially had the French winning the Succession War.

IDK if the French would manage to replace the Habsburgs with the Wittelsbachs but a victory would essentially replace the old Habsburg dominance with a Bourbon one.
