WI: President Hamilton: 1801-1809

What if Hamilton is elected in 1800, and re-elected in 1804, with his affair not being known to the public, and him having a decent reputation.

Where does he take the country? Whats different? What are the butterflies?

He would certaintly push for more industrialization, a more centralized federal government, and a more imperialistic foreign policy. What he does specifically I have no idea.

I somehow suspect that we are going to get drug into a nasty war with France under President Hamilton. Which, is not going to do much good for the country :)

If Napoleon offers Louisiana, I'm sure Hamilton would realize how good the offer is, and take it. Now it was Jefferson who first proposed buying New Orleans OTL, so you'd need for Napoleon to come up with the idea on his own.

I'd be more inclined to believe that Hamilton would try to collaborate with the French Empire to finally kick the British out of North America. We saw how well that went IOTL, so I assume it'd go the same way as the War of 1812. That is unless the military and navy are reformed, which may happen ITTL with the imperialistic Hamilton in charge.

I don't know; it was Hamilton who was gungho for a war with France during Adams' administration in OTL. And Hamilton, by and large, was a bit of an Anglophile throughout his post-Revolution life.

I was thinking of a scenario where Hamilton buys Louisiana from the French, and then stabs them in the back and fights some sort of war against them with the British, perhaps as a reward gaining some territory for the U.S.

I'm not sure what they could contribute (or gain)to any war against France, since they would have all French land in North America. That is unless Britain wanted to give Canada to America in return, but that seems unlikely.

Well, Britain might already be at war with France as a result of the Napoleonic Wars, and in any case both powers stand to gain French territories in the Carribean, which would be highly(?) valued for their sugar production.
