WI: President Frank Sinatra

What if Frank Sinatra had used his friendship with JFK as a jumping point for going into politics? Say he runs for senate in 62 and then maybe in 68 or 72 there is a movement to draft him for president. The only problem with this is that the mob issue would come up but at the same time he would be a superstar candidate.

I'd personally see him as sort of an early version of Reagan. A superstar candidate (to borrow your term for it, sir) but with little sustenance behind him. Like the second coming of U.S. Grant, including all the potential corruption problems.

Unless, of course, he gets a crash course on these things before he makes the run for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

More like a tool of the Mafia in the WH. Sinatra was wrapped around Giancana's finger since the '50s, and it wasn't exactly a secret in Washington society. Given that these were the last years that the media saw their role as politicians' defense attorneys rather than their prosecutors, wouldn't make the news unless it was something too big to ignore.
