Elvis Presley was one of, if not the most famous people in the world during the 20th century. He was the living embodiment of rock n roll, sex, and Americana. He was the symbol of an entire generation of baby boomers and completely defined the music genre forever (but with heavy black influence)

He never declared political views or supported a party, but he did vote for JFK in 1960 and Nixon in 1968/1972. He did get more conservative as his career declined. He was a self proclaimed Christian and gun fanatic. But he always supported civil rights. Early in his career he would play for black audiences on "colored night" in Memphis parks defying authorities and in interviews he claimed he was nothing without black influence.

If he never got addicted to drugs and became free of his leeching manager Tom Parker (who was an illegal Dutch immigrant!) could he had used his fame to run for office? In died in 1977 of drug overdose at the age of 42.

Maybe he runs for Mayor of Memphis for publicity, wins, runs for governor of Tennessee, wins, then run for president? I can see him supporting Ronald Reagan then running for president in 1988/1992. In 1988 he would only be 53.
