WI: Pot Legalization In, Abortion Out?

Hello, this is Marshal Tito.

What if the institution of liberal social policies had been undertaken at a different rate-for example what if unlike reality, abortion remained illegal to this day but marijuana was legal or gay marriage had been instituted earlier? How could this happen?

Assuming you mean the United States, Gay marriage isn't going to happen earlier. It took until roughly the late 1970s for the majority of the public to stop viewing homosexuality as utterly repulsive.

Marijuana could always manage to avoid be banned in the first place if lobbyists are less successful.

With legal pot and illegal abortion (probably legal in some states in the 1st trimester), the parties that presently dominate politics in the US would be almost totally realigned. You also probably wouldn't see much in the way of a 'religious right'.
My guess is that you'd see a mix of a Jacksonian and FDR Democratic party against a much weaker libertarianish Republican party.
