I asked a question before if it was possible to have a more modern view and the response was that you could have it legal if socially not liked, with the Presidential office and Freud being two was to do that.

So let's say that in a timeline where by the end of war, homosexuality itself is not automatically illegal-primarily by the punishment for the acts being slowly lowered though president opinions/acts (starting with Thomas Jefferson) and Freud's thoughts on sex and such never gaining real traction from similar 'juicy' material already published and digested (these author(s) just didn't suggest that being gay was a problem of the mind). The gay neighborhoods in the more liberal starts/Europe still come about.

What would these changes affect gay culture in the US and push for rights in such a scenario?

Note: know this a post 1900 question, but the two changes fall in Pre-1900
