WI: Possibility of another Latin American Monarchy

In the history of Latin America from the Independence of Haiti in 1804 to the turn of the twentieth century. There had been no less than 4 monarchies in the region: Mexico (1821-1823 & 1864-1867); Haiti (1804-1806, 1811-1820 & 1849-1859); Brazil (1822-1889) and the unrecognized Araucania-Patagonia (1860-1862).

What if perhaps, a known dictator at the time (i.e. Argentina, Paraguay or Peru-Bolivia) decided to declare themselves as King/Emperor of these territories? Would it be possible or would it have severe repercussions?

Well considering Perú was the Royalist hub during the Wars of Independence I'm surprised monarchy didn't take root there. I think one option you have is San Martín proclaiming himself King or Emperor or something after capturing Lima in 1821.

I think there was also a conspiracy involving Carlota of Spain (sister to Fernando VII of Spain and wife to João VI of Portugal) and the possibility of establishing herself as monarch of Argentina...though I doubt that would have worked.

I do find it awkward about Peru, I've read it once when I was browsing through Wikipedia and it did make me wonder about that. If San Martin did declare himself King or alternatively Emperor of Peru how would it affect its relationship with Bolivia?

As for Argentina, I think I understand why it failed, what with the multiple factions against such a move, including the British who would probably try to restore the Bourbon Monarchy at Spain at the time, though there is probably more to it that I may have to research.

Well I don't really think so. It's certainly possible, given if Peru or Argentina too goes like Itrubide in Mexico.
