WI Pope Gregory XI decides to stay in Avignon?

In 27 January 1377 Pope Gregory XI after many appeals from Catherine of Siena and of Italian Cardinals moved back to Rome from Avignon (his predecessor Urban V thought of moving back to Rome but he died before he could return...), King Charles V tried to persuade him to stay in Avignon but in vain...
However in OTL he didnt lived for long in Rome... He left Rome again for Avignon in 22 May after continuous riots and returned in December... he died exactly 14 months after his first arrival to Rome...
WI Gregory XI refused to return to Rome or like Urban V died before he could return and another French Pope is elected?
How is this altering History? Any thoughts?

No Papal States in the 1800's, during Italy's unification.

?Weren't there several attempts during the 15th~18th Centuries that were stopped by the Popes?

Affects on French revolution- with the Pope living in France.

Maybe the French Popes line would be broken after Agincourt... France would have been to weak to hold them in Avignon... I guess that it would have been Henry's V decision upon whether the Pope stays in Avignon (under english protection of course) or he goes back to Rome... A line of English Popes would have been possible but i highly doubt it...
