WI: Pomerania and Silesia remain apart of Germany (East Germany)

That's interesting. Do you remember where you read it? And it's not entirely unfeasible. After all, it was annexed to the RSFSR, without sharing a common border and Belarussia is even closer. And it's possible even to have a land connection between Belarus and Eastern Prussia. In the initial partition the Soviet Union controlled the Byalistok region and annexed it to the Belarussian SSR, which thus had a common border with East Prussia (see this map; the blue line shows the prewar border and the red line shows the dividing line between the German and Soviet zones). Of course this would require screwing up Poland even further, as they would have to lose not only their part of East Prussia, but also the Byalistok region and presumably also the area around Suwalki.

The title of the book was the History of Belarus.

If Operation Market Garden doesnt fail and instead of the Ardennes Offensive the Germans launch something big against the Russians the Allies could move much more East, and maybe even reach Berlin before the Russians: A more eastward West Germany and thus East Germany also more east than OTL, probably including everything except Upper Silesia, Deutsch Krone (Pommerian West Prussia) and East Prussia of course.

Stalin could also be even more hostile against Poland (more anti communism, push by the allies etc.) and integrate entire East Prussia as a German SSR and East Germany having the OTL Weimar Republic eastern border.

What also could work is a Free Polish Republic, like the allies wanted (so even more push than the option above this one), surrounded by Commies, but that's rather implausible.

East Germany would probably end up way better than OTL. How about entire Berlin as international city? A 'rich', socialistic East Germany run from Stettin sounds rather appealing.
