One can argue that modern Belarus is the example of what a topic starter wanted - only now "elective monarchy for life" is called "dictatorship"I argue that Poland's monarchy was restored. Only that the franchise was extended, the terms of the head of state were limited and the title of king was replaced by the one of president.
Seriously: unless the candidates are restricted to some specific dynasts, an elective monarchy is but a posh republic.
If Poland's elective monarchy survives to this day, as soon as democracy kicks in, reforms will pass that would transform that "monarchy" more and more into a republic in all but name.
