The spark/nail which allowed the partition to happen was the betrayal of some of the Polish nobles (Targowica Confederacy) who practically sold out their country and king to Catherine II. What if, instead of going traitor, they supported the king?
His reforms were already going on the right track. What if we made the POD the 3rd May Constitution being drafted and put in motion around 1785 or even earlier, at the beginning of Stanisław August's rule - 1764, when he made some efforts to reform IOTL?
