Would it have been even remotely possible for the Soviets to absorb Poland and create a Polish SSR after WW2? I'm already thinking it's unlikely but I would like to see what some people think.

If stalin has a totally free hand in eastern europe, I could see him trying this. The Poles would be pissed, but they arent in a position to do much at the time.
That said, i don't see this going over very well in the west, to the point where this is probably impractical. IIRC the western allies were fairly committed to an independent, democratic postwar Poland. The soviets can (and did) subvert that, but I don't think that Stalin and company can get away with outright annexation without some major diplomatic fallout.
Yes, but without illusion of independence it would be a lot more harder to suppress 'rebelious element'. In other words - remaining Home Army soldiers would be harder to track, as support from population wouldn`t wane slowly over time. There would be a lot of 'terrorist' attacks, maybe even prolonged guerilla resistance, though terrain in Poland probably wasn`t suited for that.
The west were in no mood to continue so if Staline decided to incorporate Poland. Then he would have used the trusted method ofmass deporations in and out of Poland to change the ethnic blend.
In other words the Balkinisation of Poland causing much instabiity later on
