WI/Plausibility check: Poland allies itself with Sweden instead of Russia and Denmark in 1700?

What are the odds for a Polish revanchist policy against Russia in that time , and how could the war like this play out?

Well, maybe if Jakub Sobieski gets elected instead of Augustus II in 1696, OTL he betrothed his one daughter to Carl XII of Sweden. Or perhaps, simply because Carl XII has no thirst for conquest, he offers to let the King of Poland keep some territory that he doesn't think Sweden needs?

If Jakub gets elected, and goes to war against Russia on the side of Sweden, could their alliance defeat Russians or the Polish power has not that much of influence to alter the outcome of the war?
And if they win, how much of territory could they cede without making Carolus suspicious about the growing polish power?

Poland would still be able to alter the outcome of the war. They had a good showing at the siege of Vienna in 1683, if I recall correctly.

The problem that I foresee is convincing the nobles of siding with Sweden over Russia. Russia is a sizable neighbor and shares a long border with the PLC. Also, something of note, there were reforms being done with the Russian military at that time.

If I recall correctly, the treaty of Andrusovo wich ended the war between Poland and Russia(1654-1667) in 1667, really did outrage the sejm. Maybe if the universal hatred against Russia lives up to wake of the war, would it do the trick?

Universal hatred, maybe. But you also have to remember that Sweden took part in The Deluge between 1655 and 1660. The PLC got wrecked during this time and, some would argue, lost its status as a great power. As previously stated, it is going to take some convincing.

If we were talking later than 1700, it might be plausible. As we're talking 1700, it's too soon after the Deluge. I don't think it's possible. Even if you get Sobieski with his daughter betrothed to the Swedes, the szlachta will simply say 'NOPE' to any attempts to convince them to fight alongside the hated Swedes.

I absolutely agree with these statements and the Deluge is the reason why I stated it would take some convincing. In my opinion, Russia is a safer bet for the PLC.

Who actually takes part in this war? Saxony seems to be missing, since there is no area of contact between Saxony and Sweden here, unless Saxony goes through Brandenburg. Would Denmark and Russia only really go to war?
