WI Pim Fortuyn lives

What if Dutch politician Pim_Fortuyn was not assassinated? Fortuyn was an interesting politician, taking a populist stance on restricting Mulsim immigration but being progressive on social issues, holding liberal views and even being openly homosexual. If he was not assassinated, could he have risen to greater power and influence? What would happen to the Netherlands in this scenario? What would be the effects? What if?

I think I remember a discussion here just like that and IIRC they said that Pim Fortuyn wouldn't have been as extreme as Geert Wilders became. I don't remember the details, though.

I think an unsuccessful assassination attempt would help him more than if, say, no assassination was attempted at all.
Which of the two scenarios do you have here?

How about there is a failed assassination attempt where Fortuyn is shot in the arm but manages to get away and then the assassin escapes, unable to get him, before being caught as per IOTL.
