In 345 BC, Philip conducted a hard-fought campaign against the Ardiaioi, under their king Pluratus, during which he was seriously wounded by an Ardian soldier in the lower right leg.
I was wondering what would have happened if Phillip was died from the wound instead of recovering.
At the time Alexander was 11 years old but clearly acknowledged as Phillip's son thereby giving him the best claim to the throne but at such a young age that several others might seem more attractive rulers.
At the same time this is before the Battle of Chaeronea which means Athens is still trying to supress the growing power of Macedon.
Anyone have a idea of what might have happened in the intrigue-filled Macedonian court? Who would have won out, and could Alexander have stayed in power long enough to attempt a conquest of Persia?
