WI Peace in the West 1940

JFP mentions the standard way of getting a peace at this point. An alternative might be avoiding the fiasco in Norway so that Chamberlain stays in charge while France falls.

On the other hand, Chamberlain was no fan of Hitler or the Nazis and the equipment that helped Churchill gain his status was funded while Chamberlain was either Chancellor or PM.

Given Churchill's role in the Norway fiasco, it does show history does love a jest......

I agree that Chamberlain was aware he couldn't trust Hitler by this point but I was thinking more than without Churchill's determination Dunkirk may not happen and in the worsening situation continuing the war [in the short term] may seem pointless. Also consider that by this time Chamberlain was already dying of the cancer that killed him later in the year. Hence he would have had to cede power to someone else anyway.

Like other's have said the requirement is for a peace agreement in 1940 between Britain and Germany. No one said it was going to last.;)

Does have some interesting potential implications if Chamberlain manages to hang in for a bit longer.

Is there as much political interference from No.10?

Do as many fighters get sent to France and does Dowding still have to write 'that letter'?

Does the Calais garrison get evacuated rather than being told to fight to the end?

Is Gort going against orders from No.10 when he starts moving his troops towards the coast?

As you say Chamberlain is dying so he will need to be replaced but by that time it may be too late for Churchill.
