WI/PC "V" Bombers used by the USAF?

With a post 1950 pod, get the USAF build and then operate the Valiant, Victor and Vulcan bombers in the same way as the BAC (English Electric) Canberra was built by Martin as the B-57.

You can also increase the size of the said aircraft to give a greater range and bomb load so to be a direct competitor to the B-36 and B-52 aircraft if it increases the chances of sales.

Regards filers.

Sounds obvious to me - have Boeing B-47 fail circa 1948. B-47 was pretty much America V-bomber class of aircraft, but it was a much more dangerous aircraft to fly than the V-bombers, not very reliable, early in its career it was plagued with all kind of issues and killed a lot of crews. Valiant can be procured as a stopgap measure until the B-52 flies.

The US is not going to rely on a UK a primary strategic bomber. The reverse would be far more likely: the UK is allowed to adopt the Boeing B-47. This is more consistent with history. After all, up until the Canberra was ready, the UK's best bomber was the B-29 Washington.

The only way this is remotely feasible is if there is some niche requirement the USAF needs a handful of medium bombers for that can't be filled by the 1500-odd B-47s in existence. I'm drawing a blank on that requirement.

The only thing remotely plausible is the Vulcan as a very long range interceptor. There was a US Navy study that suggested B-47 interceptors, the Vulcan would be better suited to that particular role thanks to its huge wing. RAF studies in the 1960s/19670s found that it was at least feasible. only a few dozen aircraft would be called for so not worth a domestic development program. It's extremely unlikely that anyone would actually authorise such a program though.
