WI/PC:The Sassanids conquer the Roman East during the Crisis of the Third Century?

Was it possible that the Sassanids could have conquered the Roman East the same way they did (temporarily) in the 7th century by exploiting the civil war? They were able to wipe out Valerian’s army, but were ultimately defeated by Odenathus, but could they have gone further?

Certainly, it was their most expansive and dynamic period.

Could they have held on to it after Rome reconsolidated? Dunno.

Temporarily, and most likely for a longer period than they did in the seventh century.
Wouldn’t the Roman Empire have collapsed in this case? The almost did due to the loss of Egyptian granaries to the Palymyrenes. If the Sassanids were occupying the East for an extensive period of time, wouldn’t the Romans be starving?
