WI/PC: Hanna-Barbera bought by Disney

Yeah, exactly what reads. Was it possible for the famous television animation studio to be bought out by the Walt Disney Company, instead of the Turner-Time Warner conglomerate. If so, what would be the after-affects of such a purchase?

I think it would be ASB for Disney to buy HB, unless maybe if Turner had Eisner on speed dial.

Or, maybe if Walt entered the Saturday morning battleground by '59, and a feud erupts between the two studios and raid each other's stables of artists and animators. Maybe after Walt's passing, Bill and Joe could call a truce with the Mouse House and plant the seeds for a new cable/satellite channel for the late 70's-early 80's?

Well, I meant before Turner bought it in 1991. Sometime between its hayday in the 60's and 70's, and before Turner became interested in the properties.I had heard that Eisner was interested in buying H-B, but passed, so maybe that might be a good spot to start.

Maybe Disney acquires HB from Taft around '73? Or maybe Bill and Joe approach Walt for merger talks around '63 and the merger takes place around '65?

Or how about Katzenberg and Wells convince Eisner to buy HB no later than '88?

The latter seems more plausible. Apparently, the reason Turner purchased HB in the first place was to prevent Eisner and Disney from getting ahold of them first. In fact, they had shown interest at the time.

Wonder what this means for the later day Hanna Barbera properties - I think shows like Pirates of Dark Water and SWAT Kats would be right at home next to Gargoyles.

I wonder if Disney could help improve the quality of HB's shows. I am a big Hanna-Barbera fan, but admittedly their shows did veer into formula and use cheap animation.

The last couple they put out had decent animation. Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken, Dexter's Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls. Those last two being childhood favorites of mine.
