WI/PC: Germany invading the USSR 1940

POD: Hitler has a stronger hatred towards the Soviet Union.

Obsessed with the Jews and the Soviet Union, Hitler prepares Operation Barbarossa to begin in 1940. He starts planning in 1939 and it follows the same plan as the OTL version.

The invasion begins on May 10, 1940.

How plausible is this scenario?

Can Germany defeat the USSR?

What are the effects of the invasion to WWII?

The Wehrmacht hasn't integrated all the supplies, extra motor vehicles, fuel and built enough tanks for his immediate ten to twelve German Panzer Divisions to be ready both from Germany and her recently conquered territories...

The German Armed Forces also has to rebuilt, reorganized and resupply itself to regain what was lost or attrited during the Battle of France...

At this time... Germany also doesn't have enough Axis Allies to help cover her Flanks and assist in the invasion...

I don't see Hitler turning his back to France to fight the Soviet Union. May 10th was when France and the low countries were invaded.

If he is doing this INSTEAD of France, then Britain and France will invade while his army is in the East. And he knows it.

If he is doing this AFTER France, ha, ha, ha. Seriously, what kclcmdr (Potassium Chloride Commander?) has it right.

It's really not feasible, IMO. If he tried, he'd probably be deposed as incompetent.

1941 represented the point where German military strength was at it's greatest relative to Soviet military strength. The same can not be said of 1940. The German attack is going to crash even more horribly then IOTL, gaining vastly less territory and inflicting vastly less military and industrial damage on the Soviets. The subsequent Soviet resurgence will hence be more rapid and powerful. Meanwhile, the WAllies are still there building up their strength on Germany's western frontier. Their own political timidity and (without the Dutch-Belgian entry into the war) the very narrow front will stall them for awhile, but Germany's economy was already overheating and this will only exacerbate without the loot from Western Europe and imports from the USSR.

The Soviets shake hands with the Anglo-French somewhere between the Elbe and the Oder in mid/late-1942 at the absolute latest.
