WI/PC: Father-Son Presidential Ticket in 2000?

I don't think it would be possible, as a law was passed after JFK made Bobby Attorney General that President's couldn't have relatives serve in there cabinet. Even if it were possible, Pappa Bush would also have to declare Maine his Primary Residence so not to forfeit Texas' electoral votes and he was 76 years old in 2000.

Is it possible that both George W Bush and George HW Bush could have been running mates in the 2000 presidential election?
Well, they were both from Texas, so they'd have to pull some sort of trick that let's one of them run from another state, kind of like Dick Cheney did. That said, there is still plenty going against HW in particular; he's some 76 years old, tainted by a previous loss and doesn't add much in terms of a ticket that his son doesn't provide already.

Who would head the ticket? If it's still W, then I presume he beats McCain and then picks his father. If not, could HW have defeated McCain and anyone else who crawled out of the woodwork in 2000?

As far as it being "possible", I don't think it is and in the event it did happen, it would be perceived so negatively that the RNC either nips it in the bud before it goes too far, or implements rules to prevent it from ever happening again. Such a ticket would draw immense criticism and if they were able to get it past the RNC, I'd expect to see some sort of independent Republican ticket.

It's most likely something that's brought up, dismissed and forgotten in a meeting. If for some reason the Republican Party doesn't try to stop it, the voters will. They would be better off nominating any two eligible former Republican nominees alive at the time (so every candidate back to Ford/Dole in '76, except Reagan) than opening themselves up to the accusations of nepotism and the mockery that come from a Bush/Bush ticket.

It's not constitutionally illegal to have a father and son on ticket, and the Constitution is the only law that defines who may or may not serve as President and Vice President. Does that mean it would be a good idea? Hell no.
