WI Patton Lives

I ask not for the most plausible outcome, but the most fantastic(but still plausible) outcomes of George Patton not being in the car crash that killed him, or surviveing it.

Communists of the world shake in fear, because they never know when some maniac in a tank will come smashing through the Kremlin Walls. Gorby nothing, Patton'll tear down that wall himself. Is that fantastic enough?

Willie never looks this sad :(.

I fear the Korean War would escalate even further if Patton was around, although tanks were of little use there. A 'nuclear accident' may happen in Beijing...

I can just imagine Patton and Macarthur together in Korea kicking commie ass. As for the wall, maybe it doesn't get built. Perhaps the reds are too scared of pissing him off. Now, that would be something, to butterfly away the Berlin Wall.

And all this was said, tongue in cheek, lest people jump all over me.

If Patton stays in Europe, expect a war with the Soviets within a year. If he comes back to the States, he probably gets a training command before he retires

Some people think he was assassinated in order to prevent a war with the Soviets. The best chance the West has against the Communist Eastern Bloc is that '46 - 49 time frame before the Soviet's get their nuclear footing as the US can hold that over their collective heads in order to defeat them.

Hell, he might push for more support of the Chinese National's and help keep the Communist from taking over there too

A lot of sparks are going to fly if you put MacArthur and Patton together. Chances are, the two of them will argue over alot of things given their monumentally huge egos with MacArthur pulling rank on Patton more than half the time.

Patton might push for more help for the Chinese nationalists. If he can prevent China (or at least part of it) from going Red, he's got a political future before him. And in the event of only a partial Chinese Communist success, a Chinese War is more likely IMO than a Korean one. In which case Patton might get a chance to use tanks in the open country (is China better tank country than Korea?).

Patton's personal memoirs villify and burn Ike and Bradley properly for costing lots of lives and not finishing the war as quickly as possible. Ike is disagraced because Patton goes on the record about how poorly operation Huskey was planned and thought out

He gets summarily fired by the brass and the whitehouse for embarassing the country... does some book tours; perhaps even a joint tour with Guderian for PR purposes and photo ops... then he goes home and plays polo the rest of his life

Oh Cmon, an American General can not start a war by himself I see Patton staying on in the occupation of Germany. I don't know if MacArthur would want him, so he may miss the Korean War. That is the begining of it. After MacArthur is fired then who knows.

Then there is also the matter that Patton's papers will reveal Ike's affair with Kay. IOTL they managed to prevent publication by getting Mrs. Patton's lawyer a DoJ post- ITTL they might not, and then Ike's chances for the Presidency are finished. Perhaps Ike & Mamie divorce?

A general, (who has access to intellegence services, weapons, soldiers, funds, and more) can certainly start a war. Say for example a bunch of US soldiers appear dead by soviet weapons on the border. Patton runs to his friends in the press and spreads it around for all to see. Panic ensues people want revenge, US has the bomb, Germans will support it, without US aid USSR will face trouble in terms of supplies.

Patton could be crazy enough to try for a conflict.

Patton's memoirs would be interesting and bitter. It all depends on when he retires. If the internet source, I have not left the computer sicne my last post, I saw is correct he was born in 1885. Would Truman allow him to serve past age 65. I am thinking so, with the start of the Korean War he would not fire a hero unless he caused the trouble MacArthur did or Patton could.

That is if he could keep it a secret. That is the tricky part.

Truman would have to fire him the instant he started running his mouth or pen... be it about Ike and Kay or Huskey... or Bradely restraining him during Falaise... Truman wasn't one who would want to be publicly embarrassed or have perceived chinks in the armor in front of the Soviets...

If Truman wouldn't put up with Mac's BS then he wasn't going to put up with Patton's either which if its possible was worse
