I ask not for the most plausible outcome, but the most fantastic(but still plausible) outcomes of George Patton not being in the car crash that killed him, or surviveing it.
I can just imagine Patton and Macarthur together in Korea kicking commie ass.
And all this was said, tongue in cheek, lest people jump all over me.
Is China better tank country than Korea?
Oh Cmon, an American General can not start a war by himself I see Patton staying on in the occupation of Germany. I don't know if MacArthur would want him, so he may miss the Korean War. That is the begining of it. After MacArthur is fired then who knows.
Patton's personal memoirs villify and burn Ike and Bradley properly for costing lots of lives and not finishing the war as quickly as possible. Ike is disagraced because Patton goes on the record about how poorly operation Huskey was planned and thought out
He gets summarily fired by the brass and the whitehouse for embarassing the country... does some book tours; perhaps even a joint tour with Guderian for PR purposes and photo ops... then he goes home and plays polo the rest of his life
A general, (who has access to intellegence services, weapons, soldiers, funds, and more) can certainly start a war. Say for example a bunch of US soldiers appear dead by soviet weapons on the border. Patton runs to his friends in the press and spreads it around for all to see. Panic ensues people want revenge, US has the bomb, Germans will support it, without US aid USSR will face trouble in terms of supplies.
Patton could be crazy enough to try for a conflict.
Patton's memoirs would be interesting and bitter. It all depends on when he retires. If the internet source, I have not left the computer sicne my last post, I saw is correct he was born in 1885. Would Truman allow him to serve past age 65. I am thinking so, with the start of the Korean War he would not fire a hero unless he caused the trouble MacArthur did or Patton could.
