During the 1775 American invasion of Quebec during the Revolutionary War, the Patriots assaulted the town and fort of St Jean. After a siege, the defenders of the fort surrendered and Montreal fell without a major battle.

However, Quebec's governor, Guy Carleton, was able to escape the fall of Montreal and made his way to Quebec City, where he informed the defenders of the oncoming Patriot attack. On New Year's Eve, the Patriots attacked Quebec City, but were routed.

So what if Guy Carleton was either captured or killed during the Siege of Fort Jean? Does Montreal, along with Quebec, fall? How does this impact the American Revolutionary War and assuming the US wins in the end, how does the presence of Quebec affect the United States, politically and culturally?
