WI passenger rail links North Station and South Station in Boston in 1914

The big beneficiaries, I think, would be (1) tourist areas along the train line that runs from Boston through coastal New Hampshire to points on the coast of Maine and (2) the more distant northern suburbs of Boston. A direct passenger line would make it easier for people who live south of Boston - indeed, as far south as New York - to travel to such places. It would also be attractive to affluent commuters who worked in places that were more than a short walk from North Station. (Affluent commuters like trains, but dislike subways and buses. More than that, having to switch modes of transport in the course of a commute adds greatly to the time and trouble required to make each trip.)
