WI: Ottomans stay in Anatolia

What if the Ottomans were trapped in Anatolia, and couldn't expand into the Balkans, and therefore Europe?

What effect would this have on the Byzantine remanant? If the Ottomans expand, would they go south like OTL into Arabia, west into Northern Africa, or eastward into Persia?

When's the PoD? This is easily done, their OTL success was based on luck and timing, but depending on the PoD this could go differently.

Avoiding the 2nd Palaiologoid Civil War is a good and easy PoD but the Ottomans aren't likely to do much expanding.

The Romans before the civil war were very much in a tenable position, they just needed time to recover from Michael VIII and Andronikos II reigns. No 2nd civil war would give them that.

Give the Romans a half century to recover and reform and they'll be ready for when Timur comes aknockin' on the Ottoman door! Plus, playing a little diplomacy by supporting other Turkish tribes to keep the Ottomans weaker would help.
