WI: Ottoman Colonies in South East Asia

If the Ottomans were able to colonize in South East Asia which would be the first land that they would occupy/colonize?

the Pod is AD 1300.

Obviously Aceh. I had this in Ivangorod 2.0 TL, though it was a relationship between the Ottomans and their vassals in an expanded Aceh Sultanate that included the Malacca Sultanate's territories called the Qaharid Empire.

If they start early enough, port cities in India...? Brunei as a protectorate?

Brunei became weak and reduced after the Spanish snatched them of territories, I think ITTL they would be able to retain Palawan and the control of Borneo, so they would not ask to be a protectorate.

I think it would be easy if the Ottomans made Mollucas and Aceh as a protectorate.

Technically, the Brunei Sultanate still has to pay heed to the Caliph, and if the Ottomans are still strong enough to even be capable of having and sustain colonies in south-east Asia, they would probably be capable of defeating Brunei if it became unruly.

At best, the Ottomans can only get Sumatra. But down the road they can help the Acehnese unify the Malay peoples of the Nusantao Archipelago.

Backing up Aceh to unify Nusantara won't be very realistic. But in the long term, I guess the whole archipelago can gradually develop into a patchwork alliance of Ottoman vassals to counter European (and perhaps also eastern Asian) imperialism.

Unfortunately, this will cause direct confrontation with Spain.

I think the butterflies would allow 'Selurong'(Luzon State) to ally with Korea and China instead, I think the Bruneian Empire would be stable to be just with Palawan and the control of Borneo..

I think Sri Lanka could probably end up being a colony for them, Arab traders had been doing a lot of business there for a long time. It seems like a good naval base for preventing European expansion in the Indian Ocean.

Hm. I think the Ottomans are going to have to develop an effective deep ocean navy to challenge the Europeans in SE Asia: their galley fleet was pretty badass, but it was designed for the Med/Red Sea/Persian gulf areas. It's not that it's too hard for them to adapt: after all, Barbary Corsairs [1] raided as far as Iceland in the Atlantic - but they need something to give them a major incentive.

[1] Quite a few of which were actually European in origins: there was a fair flow of naval skills and knowledge going back and forth there in NW Africa for a while...

Perhaps if we have the Ottomans conquer Persia.
