I have read three short threads on Operation Pastorius succeeding on this board. For those of you unfamiliar with it, Operation Pastorius was the plan by the Nazis to plant two teams of saboteurs in the United States to attack various U.S. industrial and transportation facilities as well as planting bombs in various public places to cause panic.
See link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Pastorius
The plan failed because of the motley crew that was chosen for the mission. The leader, George Dasch, could hardly be said to be a loyal Nazi. Also the training of the group was not the best, neither was their preparation.
Now assume Skorzeny had more time to hand pick volunteers from the Waffen SS. Again assume the mission doesn't start in June but, allowing for more time to train and prepare the agents depart Germany and land in December of 1942. The timing isn't coincidental as part of the plan involves terror bombing during the Christmas holiday to sow terror and demoralize.
Also, assume the landings go without a hitch. The two teams are landed on remote beaches, and there is no intervention by the Coast Guard as there was in the original landing in New York.
With these alterations, how much damage could the agents have caused?
Note-I do not expect that this would mean that Germany wins the war. That is ASB as far as I am concerned. However, how would this change the outlook, aims, and attitudes and maybe the strategy of the U.S. during the next three years?
