WI: Operation Downfall thwarted by tornado

In this timeline, the Allies are forced to carry out Operation Downfall, but as soon as the Allied soldiers arrive at Japan they die in a tornado. What now?

Impossible. While there was a literal "Divine Wind" Which would have occurred had downfall ran Typhoon Louise which tracked straight across Okinawa and did heavy damage to the facilities on the island there is no way baring ASBs that has the entire combined allied fleet get sunk

Typhoon Louise did do a lot of damage in October 1945. Buried on my shelf somewhere is a old 1980s magazine article, describing the dumps ashore flooded, aircraft wrecked, ships beached or sunk. The author speculated the short term effect on DOWNFALL operations would have been noticeable. Okinawa was not the only base site for DOWNFALL. Luzon had the port of Manilia which was becoming the new logistics hub for the western Pacific operations. Residual logistics sites across the central Pacific were still in use as their material was drawn down. The severe damage on Okinawa would have slowed the campaign/s but made only a temporary halt for a few weeks.
