WI: One big RSFSR instead of USSR

As the title says, what if the Soviet Union was never formed and instead all territory under Bolshevik control was just one big Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic? The Russophone populated areas of Belarus, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan would just be regular oblasts, the non-Russophone areas would be ASSRs or autonomous oblasts/okrugs. The rest of Central Asia and the Caucasus would also be a series of ASSRs and autonomous oblasts/okrugs. These would be drawn on ethnic and geographic boundaries instead of historical o ones, so for example there would be a unified Ossetian ASSR instead of Russian North Ossetia and Georgian South Ossetia. None of the regional entities would have the right to secede. What would the repercussions of this be?

The secession issue makes sense only by the late 1980's. As for the rest, as you hopefully understand in practical terms all these Soviet republics were just a window dressing.

Not really. For instance, Krushchev’s career probably looks a lot different if there is no Ukrainian SSR.

After the fall of the RSFSR, there would probably be one big Russian Federation instead of the 15 independent post-Soviet republics.

Not really, not acknowledging the different ethnic groups doesn't make them go away. Even if officially part of Russia the Balts are going to think themselves as Balts not Russians. That probably goes for the West Ukranians as well and probably other groups.

But we can at least agree the alt-Russian Federation would be bigger than OTL Russia at the very least?

This is more or less what Stalin wanted btw

He would be a Party secretary for the UASR (or whatever the name). Both in OTL and in ATL the power is within the Party central apparatus and the locals would carry the Party line no matter what their title.
