Margaret I, Queen of the Kalmar Union (Denmark, Sweden and Norway), had one son, Olaf (who succeeded his grandfather in Denmark and his father in Norway). However, Olaf died at 16 years and a few months old, and since we all know the Kalmar history, I'm not going to transcribe it here. But what if he had lived? From what I can make out, Margaret's nephew, Eric of Pomerania, wasn't a wonderful specimen of kingship (in one book it actually goes so far as to say that during Eric's pilgrimage, during which Queen Philippa was regent, the Kalmar realms were better governed than when he was home). Was Olaf any better? And what would the effects of him surviving be?
